What To Do If You Are in Dental Pain Outside of Opening Hours

Step 1: Check How Serious It Is

Seek urgent dental or medical care if you have:

• Severe or worsening tooth pain
• Facial or jaw swelling
• Signs of infection (fever, pus, bad taste)
• Bleeding that won’t stop
• Trauma to the teeth or jaw
• Difficulty swallowing or breathing

Step 2: Manage Pain at Home (Temporary Relief Only)

These steps may help reduce discomfort short-term:

• Rinse gently with warm salt water
• Take paracetamol or ibuprofen (if safe for you)
• Apply a cold pack to the outside of the face for swelling
• Keep the area clean — avoid heavy chewing on the sore side

❌ Do not place painkillers on the tooth or gums
❌ Do not use heat on facial swelling

Step 3: If a Tooth Is Broken or Knocked Out

• Broken tooth: Rinse your mouth and keep any fragments
• Knocked-out adult tooth: Hold it by the crown, place it in milk or saliva, and seek emergency dental care immediately
